Install Adobe Shockwave Player™ on a Macintosh Computer

Intro:

This tutorial will teach you how to install the Adobe Shockwave player on a Macintosh computer. This player is a free, but essential download for students using Christa McAuliffe / ACHIEVE Online content.

The Tutorial:


To Begin:

  1. First, open your Internet browser (usually Safari or Firefox) and navigate to the Christa McAuliffe Academy home page. www.cmacademy.org and select the Support Tab.



  2. Under the heading "Common Downloaded Files" select Adobe Shockwave Player.



  3. A new window will open, displaying the Adobe Shockwave Download Center. Click the "Download Now" Button.



  4. A download box will appear, with a progress meter showing the status of the Shockwave Player download.



  5. When the download is complete, it will ask you to confirm the download.



  6. Once downloaded, the disk image will mount and a Finder window for Macromedia (Adobe) Shockwave Player will open automatically. Proceed by double-clicking on the Shockwave Installer Slim icon.



  7. Macintosh OS X will ask you to authenticate (allow) the installation. The user name and password entered here must be that of the administrator account (default) on the computer.



  8. Select Easy Install and click the Install button.



  9. The installation will begin, with a progress bar showing the progress of the installation process.



  10. When the installation is finished, you will get this Successful software installation message. Click Quit



  11. You may now eject the disk image, "Macromedia Shockwave Player" by pressing Cmd-E or Ctrl-Clicking and selecting eject disk from the menu. You may also delete the Shockwave_Installer.dmg file.



You have successfully installed the Adobe Shockwave Player!
