Getting Started at CMA/AO

Welcome!!

Let the Technology Staff be one of the first to welcome you to Christa McAuliffe Academy! We are exited to have you and look forward to helping make your educational experience at CMA/AO fantastic!

To get you started, we need to get some simple, easy to install software and configure your computer to work well with the CMA/AO Software. Don't worry though, no PhD's in Computer Science needed here! Our exceptionally talented students in the CMA/AO Talent Pool have put together a few tutorials to make this process clear and painless.

So let's get started!

To Begin:

Note: for each step, clicking on the link will open a new window with a tutorial to walk you through that particular task. When you have finished each series of tasks in a tutorial, close the window, and move to the next task on this list:

  1. First, We need to install the Adobe Flash Player®. To learn how:

  2. Next, Adobe Shockwave Player® needs to be installed. To learn how:

  3. Now, we need to install the Plato Plug-ins, a special collection of tools to allow students to use some of Plato Learning's™ older content.


  4. Next we will Configure Internet Explorer's Secuirty Settings. to learn how, click here!
  5. At this point, Windows users will need to use Internet Explorer Version 6 or 7 to access Plato content, for any other content, Windows users can use any standard web browser. CMA recommends Firefox, as it needs no special security configuration.

    Macintosh users can use either Safari or Firefox, both work with no special security configuration.



    That's All There IS! You are now ready to start your CMA/AO Learning Adventure.


Getting Started: Loging in the first time

It is strongly reccomended that you login for the first time now. This will allow you to check your email, (hint: send one to your mentor, let them know you are ready to go) and see the High-Stakes Pro Interface, which is the "jumping off" point for all of your activites at CMA/AO, and login to eClass your "electronic classroom" for the first time.

  2. To check your CMA eMail, click here!

    For those students and mentors that have multiple email accounts, an email client is sometimes a very effective solution. CMA reccomends Mozilla's Thunderbird eMail client for Windows and Linux users, and Apple Mail or Thunderbird for Macintosh/Apple computers.
