Student Congress Duties & Responsibilities
OVERVIEW
As CMA Student Congress officers, we feel that the more we put into the Student Congress, the more everyone benefits. Each elected officer shall be held responsible for discharging the below listed duties in a timely manner. However, it is hoped that, through cooperation, the burden of these duties remains light.
ALL OFFICERS
- Serve effectively and enthusiastically.
- Lead by example.
- Check the Student Congress e-mail account very frequently.
- Be familiar with CMA policies and procedures.
- Help coordinate the calendar of events.
- Encourage all CMA students to get involved in the Student Congress.
- Attend all officer meetings and general meetings and stay informed of all matters discussed.
- Each officer shall be responsible for maintaining an orderly, up-to-date journal that summarizes the specific activities of his or her office. This will facilitate leadership transition, so future officers won't have to start from scratch.
PRESIDENT
- Represent the will of the student body as decided by majority vote.
- Act as the primary student representative or ambassador of the school and take responsibility for the actions of the Student Congress.
- Direct overall organization and operation of the Student Congress in a way that meets the educational and leadership goals of CMA.
- Delegate authority to officers and committees while assuring that they perform effectively.
- Call and preside over general meetings and officer meetings.
- Recommend and establish goals and objectives for the Student Congress with the approval of the members to prevent the organization from falling into stagnation.
- Have a good understanding of parliamentary procedure (we can train you).
- Know and be involved in vital school issues.
- Act as the primary contact and liaison for student-related issues.
- Maintain frequent contact with the Regional Senators and Student Congress officers.
PRESIDENT-ELECT
- Be prepared to assume the responsibilities and duties of President if and when the President should ever become unable to do so.
- Mirror the President in understanding of the Student Congress, with the expectation that you will assume the office of President the following year.
- Conduct general meetings or attend functions in the absence of the President.
- Assume the duties of unfilled officer positions within the Student Congress.
- Help oversee general organization and operation of the Student Congress.
- Serve as head of the Transportation Committee, which shall be responsible for arranging transportation for Student Congress activities.
SECRETARY
- Type and email a meeting agenda outlining the topics prior to all regular and special meetings of the Student Congress .
- Record attendance at meetings.
- Record and distribute Minutes of meetings promptly after each meeting.
- Maintain the Student Congress records in an organized, secure and up-to-date fashion with adequate backup procedures.
- Conduct all needed correspondence in a timely and professional manner.
- Send "thank you" letters to guest speakers and contributors on behalf of the Student Congress.
- Serve as a representative of all students in your region with full voting rights in the Student Congress.
- Develop communications with community organizations and leaders within your region.
- Co-chair a committee of volunteers which plans and implements field trips, educational events and community service activities in each region.
- Contact local and outlying businesses to solicit donations of goods, services, or cash to support Student Congress events.
- Maintain a journal that includes an up-to-date list of all-corporate and industry contacts and their contributions to the Student Congress .
- Act as a general liaison to the CMA Staff on matters of student interest or concern within your region.
REGIONAL SENATOR: 2 Elected for each of Five Regions
CONGRESSIONAL REPRESENTATIVE: 1 Elected from each Class (District)
- Serve as a representative of all students in your Class with full voting rights in the Student Congress.
- Develop communications with community organizations and leaders within your region.
- Serve on a committee of volunteers which plans and implements field trips, educational events and community service activities in each region.
- Contact local and outlying businesses to solicit donations of goods, services, or cash to support Student Congress events.
